DAVID MONROE 

David Monroe, is an R'n'B and Soul artist from London. He prides himself on the 'twist' that he brings to the UK Urban and R'n'B scene. We have taken Monroe on board at Innovate PR as our first client. 

 

Monroe would describe himself, as the 'Calypso Boy', his new and individual sound encourages positivity and spiritedness which shines through his music. He is inspired by R'n'B phenomenon Tory Lanez, Bashment artist Popcaan and UK duo Lotto Boyz. His musical drive and talent is very much represented through his music output. As an independent artist Monroe has released two albums 'Calypso' and 'No Behaviour' as well as his latest single 'Scrubs' on Spotify and Apple Music. His music showcases his raw singer and songwriter talent, alongside features from huge UK artists such as RnB star Haile, from WSTRN and Rap artist Geko.

We at Innovate PR, admire the amount of achievements Monroe has made as an independent artist. Therefore, as our first client, we aim to enhance his musical presence through our range of PR services and promotional techniques to help him modify the music sensation that he is!

GENRE & AUDIENCE RESEARCH 

THE R&B GENRE

The Genre that is R'n'B, also known as the Rhythm & Blues began in the 1950s and originated from Soul and Jazz music. Although, contemporary R'n'B is somewhat different. With the combination of styles like pop, soul, funk, dance etc, the genre of R'n'B has really adapted and now features vocals, drums and various rhythms.

Over the years, the R'n'B genre has evolved, ranging from sounds from artists like Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti, Usher to more current R'n'B sounds like Tory Lanez, Drake and The Weeknd; whereby the tones and rhythms of the music has enhanced. More than ever, R'n'B music especially within the UK is one of the most dominant music genres, and UK artists like David Monroe, encourage the evolvement and distribution of R'n'B.

Individuals are increasingly listening to R'n'B music. As the R'n'B genre is very much involved within mainstream music, it increases the chances of R'n'B musicians like Monroe to become more noticed as an artist yet to also increase the distribution of their music.

Most commonly, the target audience and market for contemporary R'n'B music ,ranges from 16-35 year olds, specifically females. Due to the music style and characteristics of R'n'B music, it is believed that women are more commonly targeted by R'n'B artists. This is because of the lyrical content that is stereotypically written about heartbreak, lust and love, which are songs that may be more relatable to females than males.Male R'n'B artists like Monroe, typically address situations that attract female attention, as shown through their visuals and sexual lyricism.  Where as, males may be more attracted to the materialistic side of R'n'B cultures and music such as wealth, fashion and cars.

However this is cliche of R'n'B music and culture, as more increasingly we see all genders as well as all ages listening to R'n'B. Which is why, we at Innovate PR have decided to branch out Monroes PR campaign towards various audiences such as:

  • Female & Male 

 

We will use our PR services to ensure that David Monroes music presence and music is marketed and further distributed  to these correct audiences.

David Monroe's overall aspirations and objectives are to increase his audience awareness, market and listeners.

 

 

SMART Objective 1:

 

Specific: To increase the listens of Monroe’s newly released single ‘Scrubs’ on Spotify by 20%

 

Measurable: This is measurable because weekly updates will be calculated and compared to the original listens.

 

Achievable: This is achievable as, Innovates PR services, networking and motivation will aim to achieve this through a range of promotional techniques.

 

Realistic: This is realistic as the hit already has 1310 listeners on Spotify when the song was released in January, without any PR techniques.

 

Time Bound: Time is restricted yet with our PR techniques we will aim to achieve this by the 16th of May

 

 

 

SMART Objective 2:

 

Specific: To build up David Monroes audience awareness not just around London, but also around the UK, specifically in Birmingham.

 

Measurable: Is somewhat difficult to measure as it is hard to distinguish who is listening to David on each platform and where they are based. Yet, will focus on looking at Instagram followers increase and their locality.

 

Achievable: Yes, this is achievable as Birmingham encourages new R&B / Hip Hop music and artists in and around a range of music venues.

 

Realistic: It is realistic to an extent, however as it is somewhat difficult to measure, we may not be able to acknowledge if the audience has increased within the Birmingham City.

 

Time Bound: Within our time frame we will try our best to increase David Monroe's target market in and around Birmingham.

 

 

 

SMART Objective 3:

 

Specific: To Increase David Monroes Instagram follows by 200

 

Measurable: This is Measurable as weekly updates will be calculated and compared to the original followers.

 

Achievable: This is achievable as, Innovate’s networking and motivation will aim to achieve this through a range of promotional techniques.

 

Realistic: This is somewhat realistic as he already he has 11.5k followers on Instagram which means he already has a good fan basis and audience awareness.  

 

Time Bound: Time is restricted yet with our PR techniques we will aim to achieve this by the 16th of May
